About Me
- Mike Gellerman
- I am a biologist specializing mainly on birds and the ecology and evolution of species in isolated landscapes. I have worked all over the world, my main interest is in Southwestern Africa but other landscapes like Australia and many parts of Asia intrigue me as well. I also have done quite a bit of leading natural history expeditions on every continent and I always enjoy a new challenge. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, attended UC Berkeley and have lived mostly in Japan and Southern Africa for the past 20-odd years. I came back to the States in April 2009 and eventually moved to Berkeley, California. That is home for me now. I came back to the States to work on international conservation issues. I still spend a good part of time overseas but I am enjoying being back in Berkeley where my roots are in many ways. I also lived in Japan for many years, and these are my notes about returning to Japan in September and October of 2009 to help promote the documentary movie "The Cove" for Earth Island Institute.
